CY enclaves within the ESBA (UK)
Three or four CY enclaves sit inside the ESBA. Since the southern Dhekelia Power Station has no territory of its own, it is doubtful if it is technically an enclave. The boundaries at the two Dhekelia Power Station enclaves and the Xylotymvou enclave are clearly marked, while the boundary around the Ormideia appears to be unmarked. New roads constructed at Ormideia could have tampered with the markers.

Ledra Street
CY maintains a lookout post on this fashionable shopping street, where locals and mainly tourists can have a look into the buffer zone as it was left in 1974. 100 meters away the TRNC and Turkish flags are waiving together, as they are mostly in TRNC. Spectators sense the military unrest as a CY soldier on the lookout post guards his side with a rifle and looking over is at your own risk. Visiting the TRNC side of Ledra Street (now S. Bahceli street) all you find is a shopping street with cafés just like on the southern side.

Holy Cross Church

This functioning catholic church has the unfortunate misfortune to be located inside the UN buffer zone with the rear end right up to the TRNC sector. Finding the church from the TRNC side it is hard to see what is going on, as a wall blocks the area and the view. It is possible to get a reasonable view from the rear end of the Roccas Bastion, where TRNC keeps a military checkpoint.

Roccas Bastion

From the TRNC city walls you can have a clear look into the UN buffer zone and across the street into CY.

The ESBA corridor

A UK corridor connects the main area of the Dhekelia Sovereign Base area with the minor north eastern part of the ESBA. Boundary markers are visible 50-10 meters away from each side of the road. On the CY side is peaceful farmland, while on the TRNC side barbwire, watchtowers (including UN) and ghost towns dominate the scenery.

Halfway a roundabout leads to nowhere. Signs towards TRNC warns that this is the end of the Sovereign Base Area.
